How It Works
Competitors Prepare Their Tastiest Wings and Serve Them in Designated Tents
FOR 2020: Guests order their wing box online, eat the wings, and vote for their favorites by scanning their favorite competitor’s QR code and voting with electronic funds.
In addition, pre-selected “stealth judges” will be chosen to “influence the vote” with pre-loaded voting tokens.
The winning team from each division will be named based on points totaled from dollars, tickets, and tokens. The overall winning team is awarded a one-of-a-kind plaque.
As a thank you, several gift bags are given to attendees with prizes such as gift cards and sporting event tickets, along with information about our Hot and Atomic Sponsors.
Since 2011, our founder has hosted an annual fundraiser featuring his hand-crafted, smoked-then-dry-rubbed wings. One day in 2017, he overheard a friend claiming to have the best chicken in town. They arranged a duel on our founder’s patio with a few buddies serving as judges. The judges would vote with their dollars and all money would go to support clean water efforts in Africa.
But, nothing worth doing is worth doing lightly. The duel turned into an open event at a rented community center, featuring a live band and eight competitors seeking votes from nearly 200 guests. People voted for their favorite wings by donating their money into the competitors buckets. Yes, our founder was pleased with the votes from that fall evening. But, something bigger happened. The simple event provided clean water to 40 people for life. The next year, our impact was more than tripled.
A Kansas City suburb, Lee’s Summit is home to nearly 100,000 people. CNN/Money and Money magazine routinely ranks Lee’s Summit in the top 50 in its “100 Best Cities to Live in the United States.“ We know why.
Because Lee’s Summit is community.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is Wings 4 Water a non-profit organization?
Wings 4 Water is a Missouri Non-Profit Corporation, recognized as a 501(c)(3) entity.
Can we bring the kids?
Absolutely. We will have a kid zone set up in the middle of the event, along with family-friendly live music.
How do we vote for our favorite wings?
After trying the wings from multiple competitors, determine your favorite and donate money to Wings 4 Water into that competitor’s bucket. Each dollar will count as one vote, so $20 will yield a $20 vote for that tent. The competitor that has the most votes by 8:00 pm will be declared this year’s winner. Note, Wings 4 Water will accept donations after this time, but they may not be counted in the official voting.
Where does the money go?
100% of your vote money goes to worldwide and local relief, focusing primarily on nonprofit organizations that provide clean water using portable filters, new wells, and large, installed filtration systems.
